One of the attractions you should visit when you are at Lymington is the Isle of Wight. It has many interesting places you can visit – The Needle, missile testing site, beaches, dinosaur remains and fossils etc. See it on Google Map here.

Getting there

You can take a ferry from Lymington Pier. The ferry itself is worth the trip! You can soak in the fantastic view of the river, the sea and the harbour. You can find out more about the ferry service here.

The Needle

The Needles is a row of three chalk rocks that rise about 30m out of the sea with a lighthouse stands at the far end.

The Needle

From the photo, you will question why is it called The Needle. There was originally 4 rock formation there. And one of them looks like a needle. Unfortunately, the original Needle collapsed in a storm in 1764.

The Needles were featured on the movie “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”, a 1968 British-American musical adventure fantasy film.
